What are plant sterols?

Plant sterols are compounds that have similar structure to cholesterol and are naturally found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and cereals.

What is the benefit of adding plant sterols into Nestlé Omega Plus VitalCare™ and Nestlé Omega Plus ActiCol®?

2 servings of Nestlé Omega Plus contains clinically proven amount of plant sterols to help lower cholesterol (Thomsen et al, 2004). Plant sterol has a similar structure to cholesterol. It reduces absorption of cholesterol from small intestine into the body.

How long does it take to see the results?

Study shown that consumption of 1.2g – 1.6g of plant sterols per day (in milk) over 4 weeks reduced the LDL-cholesterol level, in mildly hypercholesterolemic subjects, by 7% and 10% respectively (Thomsen et al, 2004).

I do not have any cholesterol issue. Can I consume Nestlé Omega Plus?

What happens if I take more than 2 servings/day of Nestlé Omega Plus?

There are no known negative side effects from consuming more than 2 servings daily. However, intake above 3g of plant sterols per day is unlikely to provide additional cholesterol-lowering benefits. A balanced diet rich in fibre is still recommended.

Which Nestlé Omega Plus Product is suitable for diabetics?

Nestlé Omega Plus VitalCare™ is low-GI, making it suitable for pre-diabetic and diabetic individuals.

I have lactose intolerance. Can I take Nestlé Omega Plus ActiCol®?

Nestlé Omega Plus ActiCol® is a milk-based product and contains lactose. It may not be suitable for lactose intolerant individuals.
